If you are someone who just bought a new computer or you have one and you actually don’t know anything about using one, this post may be for you. Computers are nothing more than over-glorified typewriters with multiple types of storage and memory. With that said lets first ask the following question:
Why did you buy the computer? This is a good starting point for first time buyers of computers, especially if one is not computer literate. This type of question is one that I used while being a Consultant. I’ve heard the saying “when we play computer” as well as others. The computer itself is not a toy. It can be used as one, but, the computer has many uses even for the home user. Back to the question…..consider why you bought it in the first place. Refer to the following list below:
1. Games
2. Book keeping
3. Internet
4. Play music and DVDs
5. Research and/or school work
The list can go on and on here. Concentrating on why you bought the computer is you best starting point. You can learn other things as you go.
Lets use Research and/or school work for our example in this post. There are resources on the Internet such as encarta online, Itools and more. Usually, computers come pre-installed with some kind of word processing software. You can create reports for College, school and/or work. The reports can be saved on the computers hard disk – drive C: in the My Documents for you to access when you need it. Later and if ever, you can delete old files in the My Documents thus freeing up space from old files that are not needed anymore.
For Games, bookkeeping and playing music, your computer may or may not have specific software needed. This would depend upon the package you purchased. Usually, they are already loaded with software such as Windows Media Player and some games. For bookkeeping, that would depend upon the package your bought.
For more information you may refer to the “Ok, But” page. I hope this helps. I may add to, modify this post later. Questions & comments are welcome!
